You would dare to question the necessity for a cleric of Lolth, and even stoop to question the status of Drow mothers? *ominous look* A Drow mother always condemns weakness and lauds strength in her children, and uses competition among the youngest of her children to aid her judgement in this endeavour. After she has eliminated weak children and deemed the rest potentially worthy of survival, she unleashes them on the world. The strong become ever stronger and impose their views on the world, and the others continue to suffer (as they justly deserve). Many die at the hands of the strong, but the truly weak never even surpass "natural" hazards. Clerics and Lolth herself oversee this contentious process and succor victorious strength with divine healing. Males who are too incompetant to recognize the worthiness of her healing can go entirely without it; few will live long enough to regret their rash decision. Lolth has never had mercy for those who do not recognize her power and infinite wisdom, and her cruelty to false worshippers remains unparalleled. *sneers*

Only the surface creatures, such as our ancestral elven foes, "lick the wounds" as you say. Surface mothers encourage their weak children instead of letting them die and condemn the strong as "bullies". As they are unfit mothers, we Drow always kill their unfit children easily. They grow weaker and weaker with every generation. Eventually, we will swarm over them and utterly destroy their society.
