WoW = video game crack

3 Pallys, mage, and my druid on princess run last night. First two attempts we wipe. 3rd attempt I'm like okay pallys heal I'll tank in bear form mage nuke while I attempt to hold agro. Down she goes. Not one of the three had managed to adjust to the new realities of the 1.9 patch. /sigh

So how is everyone doing this fine Friday?

Well I thought it would take longer but I'm already going through withdraws from not playing WoW haha. I really need to get the stuff to upgrade haha.

Well it appears that Kishor turned his two week notice in well two weeks ago. Of course the powers that be kept it under there hat :( So that means a couple of things. First Kishor is going to be in New Jersey on Monday so I doubt he is playing anymore. Second is that there is another job opening here at the college for someone with computer experience (Jeremy, Dustin?).

On a side note we were barely keeping our heads above water with our boss, and one of our interns leaving halfway thru the semester. Now we are down one of our three full time positions as well. If I'm a bit cranky for a while just keep that in mind. We are so screwed........

I believe I have a total of two slots for ram, and I think my friend Josh (the one I mentioned earlier) said It has an AGP slot.

He is correct.

Your machine isn't actually that bad. (I'm assuming it is completely factory spec.) It has an Athlon XP 2400+ (2GHz) which is plenty good enough.

What's killing you is the intergrated video, and the fact that you only have 128 Megs of RAM.

A new video card will cost you anywhere from $25-$550 dollars, depending on how much you want to spend. Even the cheapest of cards will be a big improvement.

There are tons of cards in the $50-100 range on Newegg that will play Warcraft just fine. (It won't be on the highest graphic settings, but it will play it well.)


$68 ($58 after rebate) for a knockoff brand Radeon 9600. A good deal for a basic, solid card. (I think Dustin's system has a 9600 in it, actually.)

We can reccomend a few good brands / models if you decide to upgrade.

Memory is pretty cheap right now, too.

A 512 Meg chip will run you a little over $30. You can stop there, but if you've got the money (and your motherboard will support it...) you may want to go ahead and buy two. 512 will be a big improvement. 1024 will be even better.

You can get a nice upgrade for as little as $80-90 on a budget. $120-150 will get you even better.

You just wanna' make sure someone who knows a little about computers cracks the case open and takes a look inside before you order. I wasn't able to find any information about the motherboard, so you want to make sure it can actually be upgraded. Some of the cheaper motherboards used in those factory machines don't have an AGP slot (needed for the video card upgrade) or only one socket for memory sticks.

So I had a friend check to see what I needed to get to play WoW. He said all I need is 512 ram and a new video card.

So how much would that run?

Shatzer- I'm still poking around with the Paly. I'm not all that happy with the new tree layouts. The 24/0/27 build I'm looking at doesn't even have a 31pt talent.

Jeremy--So what do you think of the 1.9 patch? I'm really digging the changes made to the pally. It plays right into what I want to do. Go go turtle :)

One big problem with the Alliance is NO one ever wants to play D. I dont know how many times I've found myself against 3 Horde and having to kill a warrior with a shaman and priest backing him up is damn near impossible.

Yeah shamans are quite broken. The worst part about pvp is that most times the alliance side is very unorganized. I still kind of get a kick out of logging in and getting some WSG action. I just always expect to lose.

Well, it is offical, verizon is a bunch of deciving asshats. The new card does work a lil better then the old card, but not good enough to play wow on, 900ms lant is average. No wow for Dustin, 1 year shutup.

Okay I have some very exciting news. Caleb and I finally spoke yesterday and the LAN party is a go! It will be on Saturday January 7th at his place here in Wooster. All you need to do is bring yourself and your computer (if you feel like it). I'll have the projector and at least an xbox/gamecube. We may also be running a movie room as well, you never know :)

I guess I shouldn't really call this a lan party since I'm planning so much more. Maybe I should call it Shatzercon :P

I really want you guys to come, so take vacation days if you have to!

The experement for the most part was a sucess. I can connect to the internet, check my mail, post on the blogg, and that is about it. I can log into wow, but im getting like 1500ms lant, when I cast a spell, it takes a full 2 sec for an instant cast spell to go off. Im going to try and move the computer to another room and see if it helps, but I dout it will.

Farva-- we are no even for the computer, the account has another 30 days plus the 60day play card makes 3 months.

We can't even get thru an instance without at least one wipe due to lag....... Like I said I'm back on elune fulltime for the near future.

Nothing yet. It will be Lifestealing once I collect the materials for it, and find an enchanter that actually has that formula.

I was an UBRS loot-whore last night. It was rogue night.

Dal'Rend's Tribal Guardian dropped. I won the roll against a hunter.

Rend also dropped Eye of Rend. Nobody else needed it. A guildy won the greed roll, and let me have it.

Then the Beast dropped Blademaster Leggings. Nobody needed those, either. I ended up giving the winner of that greed roll 10g, and he let me take those, too.

So Durotan has been very buggy as of late. It is at capacity, which means tons of lag. We actually wiped in ZF because of it. So I am going to be playing on elune, at least part of the time. What this means to you guys (Farve, Bubbles, and Dustin) is I'm going to be around to help you level :)

I've also started my own guild. It is called Casual Refuge. You guys are going to love my guild tabbard. :P

That is how much money I had on my characters. They are decked out in all of the blues that I wanted and I still had the money to make my own guild. All of you guys are automatically in (Jeremy if you have an alt that isn't in the Triads come on in). Dustin if you restart please do so on elune. I want to make you an officer so you can help me run the guild :) Let me know.

Farve and Bubbles for in game help /tell either Trelan (my pally) or Drusillia (my druid). Of course if you guys are in the guild I'll always be available, no matter which of my 7 alts I'm playing :)

ps: OMFG Jeremy that Moonkin form is so freakin' broken. You are right it is a dps caster with ass loads of armor..... just broken. Of course I respecced to take advantage of it :)

Low levels can be fun. It is really fun to write for as well. Gives me a chance to make the story line very epic as well.

Last night was alot of fun.PLaying low levels is more fun then I thought it would be, even though i do miss some of the broken shit you can do when at higher levels.

Just got my old copy of Photoshop 4.1 for the Mac. The laptop is giving me an error whenever it tries to load into Classic mode. "No Classic system folder. You do not have a version of Mac OS9 installed that supports Classic. Install Mac OS 9.1 or later."

I take it I'm needing something else installed to get this to work?

ps: Mages in WoW being able to teleport to the capital cities really rules as well. Makes popping into Darnassas for Herb/Alch training a cake. MAGES RULE! At least until something else catches my attention.

Yeah, I've been reading them.

Don't care. I've decided to play Stumpy to 60 the way I want to now. I've re-equipped him with mostly combat-based armor... high STR, low INT, and some spirit for mana regen. Said to hell with it. I'm playing him as he's supposed to be played, not some heavily-armored gimped priest. If the patch makes him even stronger, so be it.

He's at the level now where he's in the Plaugelands. Undead again. Everywhere. It will be like it was when the hand of God was cleansing Darkshire once again.

Okay my new D & D game is going to be starting at 1st level. It will be 3.5 rules. The only class/races allowed are from the 3.5 PHB. If everyone could post what they were thinking of playing here on the blog it would be helpful for me.

yeah so far my runs through deadmines with other lower level characters havnt been sucsessful. There has been an idot druid in each one that pretty much pulls the boat. haha

What level are we going to start out on for your game john? And when dose it start... I havnt been showing up at the monday games becouse I got into a little fight with leon about the rules... (who woulda guessed it) I dont know if I am going to game, I am going to see if I can clam down enough to game... oh and if I do, John. Not just a level 10. A level 10 who seemed to be doing everything possible to make the instance difficult.

I've kept my Healalidan spec'd Retribution just for the Consecration. That circle-of-death is invaluable for taking lowbies through instances. As long as you stand in the glowing circle, and stay there, you're gonna' be fine.

At level 18-19, Farva and Bubbles were at least high enough level to survive for a few seconds till I could get back to them. Though even the idiot 10 only died maybe four or five times.



Bubbles, you should have a real nice pair of enchanted daggers in your mailbox. (You've probably already seen them.)

Bubbles - Daggers, no. There really isn't crap for daggers up into around the 20s or so. I can check Thottbot and see what you need, and where to get it.

Noah might be interested in playing I can talk to him and I'll probley make like a fighter or barbarian...mabey a gnome fighter because it would be neat.

I'm not really use to the whole running through an instance thing but it was pretty neat. Oh and I relly need to get better daggers for my rouge is there a particulare place where some nice ones drop?

Whooboy. Now that was a nubly nub. Guy was so in a hurry to loot the kills, he'd go running off into groups of 20 elites, get one or two shotted dead, then sit there crying "rez pls..." while we're still in combat. (Of course, having it on Free-for-all didn't help...)

Farva got decked out on that run, though. Capn' Greenskin dropped the Ember Staff, VanCleef dropped Corsair (the cloth chest), and Cookie dropped his wand.

Not that it matters, once I get everything set up again. The TV card will be on order as soon as I find the right one. (I need something with the right inputs. Most people just want TV cards to view cable on their monitor - not hooking up a dozen other pieces. ) I should have the downstairs set up again soon.

It is just an animated .gif. (A huge one. Close to 2 megs...) You just take a series of still images, then run them together into one large image that changes between "frames." So, you'd just take a bunch of screencaps from the DVD, use a photo editing program to add the captions, or any changes to the image (like the "!"...)

That is Sweet... May I ask who is the one that did that, and Show me how to do it.. that would be Sick!
